less is more
Has God ever asked you to do something that made no sense to you? I’m wondering if it’s just me, but it seems as though every time I turn around God directs me to do things that seem to be counterintuitive to my calling and needs. I want to see more, but he says the way to more is less.
Less money.
Less titles.
Less busyness.
Less achievements.
Less distractions.
Less relationships.
Less resources.
Why less? Doesn’t more give us options, power, and poise to accomplish our God-given dreams? Our culture tells us that we have to have money to make money. The more we accumulate, the more we do, the more we’ll produce, and the more successful we will become. But what does kingdom culture teach us about less?
Jesus took 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish and fed five thousand.
David chose not to wear Saul’s armor when he fought Goliath and killed that giant.
Esther could wear any jewelry she wanted when she was presented to the King, but instead of choosing diamonds, she won that beauty pageant by adorning herself with grace from the presence of God.
The widow was drowning in debt with no hope for her and her boys. She only had a small amount of oil to her name, but God ordered those few drops to never stop flowing, providing residual income for that momma.
Jesus was born in a manger to a carpenter of humble means, but God used one star as a guiding light to fund all of their family’s needs.
Less. Less. Less. Less. Less. Less produced MORE.
What can we surmise from this? Only one thing comes to mind: God can do more with less!
More trust.
More anointing.
More focus.
More obedience.
More faith.
More miracles.
More peace.
More harvest.
More generosity.
Are you feeling the inflation in that grocery bill? This is just another opportunity for our God to do more with less.
Feeling empty and worried? Don’t labor outside God’s will in panic and control, wait a little longer, and trust that God can do more with less.
Are you at the end of your rope? Perfect! Where we end God begins.
Is everything breaking down and your bank account tapped out? Look for the manna from heaven, it’s coming.
If “less” sums up your season, more is the fruit of those who trust God in it! Don’t loathe or have a poverty mindset, wait with expectation, be obedient when it is scary, and laugh without fear of the future because our God can do MORE with LESS.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
