Facing Disappointments
Have you ever experienced disappointment?
I can relate—I've had my fair share this week.
Ephesians 5:1-20 brought to mind the struggles of the Psalmist David. In the Psalms, he bared his soul, expressing the unfairness of life, unkindness from people, being overlooked, accused, denied, and facing unexpected twists even after being anointed as King. Despite it all, David navigated these challenges with honesty and surrender to God.
How will you face life's unfair moments? Will you follow David's example, surrendering to God, or adopt the approach of his son Absalom, taking matters into your own hands?
Ephesians commissions us to "Understand God’s will" and "not be foolish," urging us to prioritize God's sovereignty over worldly disappointments. It's okay to acknowledge our feelings, as David did, but then we must turn our eyes and laments to worship—a fragrant offering to the Lord.
David's Psalms exposed his dark emotions, preventing them from turning him dark. By bringing them into the light, he could give thanks to God for his care and protection through every trial. He was able to trust God with difficult circumstances even when God’s plans were unclear to him.
Ephesians 5:15 advises, "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil."
We, too, can "make the most of every opportunity." Today, I encourage you to confess any dark disappointment and offer it as a sacrifice of praise to the Lord. Know that we can trust Him, regardless of what we're going through. In all circumstances, He is still worthy of our praise! We get to write the songs and God writes the noteworthy stories of our lives. He has the final say!
