Four Questions to ask God
Are you so sure? Are you so sure of that offense? Are you so sure of that opinion? Are you so sure of that judgement? When was the last time you prayed and asked God to show you where you are wrong instead of asking Him to justify your view of things?
Engaging in conversations with God often involves asking Him for things, detailing our struggles, and seeking solutions, sometimes even confessing the shortcomings of others while overlooking our own. When we take a step back, it can be humiliating that we approach the Creator of the universe, who is all-powerful and all-knowing, in such a manner.
Prayer, when approached with humility, becomes a profound act. It signals to God, "I need you—not my limited understanding, not my solutions, not my will, but your thoughts, correction, encouragement, vision, direction, and wisdom."
Rather than engaging in circular conversations that fail to invite God to shape our lives, let's pose these four vulnerable questions to process challenging spaces honestly with our Father, who loves us beyond our desires and into our true needs.
Father,
1. Where am I wrong?
2. Where am I deceived?
3. Where am I ungrateful?
4. Where do I need to grow?
By posing these questions, we not only express our feelings to God but also grant Him permission to challenge our perspectives by revealing truth. Wholeheartedly submitting to God in every aspect of our being allows His will to prevail over wishful thinking, fostering genuine progress. Humility enables us to operate in God's grace as He gently guides us back onto His profitable path.
James 4:6 (NKJV) states, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Do you sense a constant state of resistance and you’re not sure where it’s coming from? An absence of grace, defined as undeserved and unmerited favor, will make you feel:
· Incapable of doing anything right?
· Constantly irritated without a clear cause?
· Under an unforgiving, judgmental lens?
If you recognize these signs, pride may be the culprit! A temptation you can see, like a piece of cake at a birthday party, but pride you cannot. It comes from behind and just like a betrayer it seeks to stab you in the back and undermine your journey.
In contrast to pride, God's purpose is not to bring about our destruction but rather to save us.Understanding this aspect of His character allows us to humbly approach Him with trust, surrendering everything to Him. We can trust Him with our dreams, our hurts, our relationships, our finances and even our development. Living under undeserved favor and blessings doesn't stem from knowing it all, but from trusting the Knower enough to follow His will, even when it diverges from our preferred handling of life's challenges.
Embrace courage as you pose vulnerable questions to God and open your heart to receive His honest answers. As you step into prayer, remember that what God has in store for you is inherently good—allow Him to guide you toward it!
